History and Mission

MCEFCU History

Montgomery County EFCU’s (MCEFCU) history dates back to1968. The Credit Union was established, at that time, to serve the financial needs of Montgomery County Maryland Government employees. The Credit Union began, with one employee, in Montgomery County’s Council Office Building (COB), located at 100 Maryland Avenue, Rockville, MD. Due to the steady growth of the Credit Union and the demand for additional financial services, MCEFCU out grew its space at the COB facility and in 1974 moved to 64 Court House Square. In 1991 MCEFCU purchased and moved into the Rockville branch location at 20 Courthouse Square.

In the early 2000's, the credit union had again outgrown its facility and began to look for additional office space. In order to better serve our members, the decision was made to add a second branch location with a drive-thru and to relocate MCEFCU headquarters at the new facility. By early 2006, the credit union had identified a site Germantown, Maryland for the new Branch/Headquarters. The new facility located on Crystal Rock Drive was opened in August 2008. At that time, the credit union was serving over 13,000 county employees and family members in addition to other affiliated groups. Assets had reached more than $70 million dollars.

MCEFCU currently has 28 employees. The average number of years of service for MCEFCU employees is ten years with seven employees having more than 20 years of service.

The year 2009 marked a significant milestone for Montgomery County EFCU. In 2009, MCEFCU celebrated its fortieth year of operation.
